Winner of the 2009 IDA Award of Distinction, our Adopt a Corner Garden program is entering its 18th year.

Each year DCI puts all of the corner gardens within the BIA up for adoption to local businesses and organizations. The city crews dig and prepare the beds, the businesses plan their design, purchase their materials, and plant the gardens. The city crews maintain the gardens throughout the summer. The results are wonderful blooming gardens all over the city. No two are alike! We receive 100s of comments on this project every year, and every year it just gets better.

Participating in Adopt a Corner is a fantastic way to beautify our downtown and showcase your business's community spirit. The best part? Your only expenses are the cost of the flowers and the time your team spends planting them.

This program is a great example of the benefit of partnerships. We proudly call it the "little program with the big impact," and with over 80 gardens planted within the BIA, it truly is!

How the program works:

  • City crews prepare the garden beds each spring, early June.
  • Businesses/organizations design and plant the gardens.
  • City crews maintain the gardens throughout the summer.
  • DCI provides an "Adopted By" sign featuring your logo.

Program Restrictions:

  • No vegetable or fruit plants, please.
  • All plants must be under 3 feet at full height to ensure visibility at corners.
