Downtown Dollars act like a gift certificate but work like cash at participating businesses in Downtown Charlottetown’s BIA*. 
 
Have dollars to spend? Here’s how it works: 
  • Go to one of the many participating stores, restaurants and service providers in our Downtown.
  • Before you pay for your purchase, say you’d like to use your Downtown Dollars.
  • Sometimes new staff may not be aware of the Downtown Dollars, if this happens suggest they call DCI at 902-368-8636 so we can explain the reimbursement process.

We've upgraded our Downtown Dollars program to the new Downtown Charlottetown Gift Card

Neither the Downtown Dollars, nor Downtown Charlottetown Gift Card expire, so spend what you have at participating businesses!


What are the instructions when a customer wishes to pay with downtown dollars?
Downtown Dollars are like gift certificates - without the administration fee. They can be used like cash for goods and services in businesses located in the downtown only, which encourages local spending.
  • Check the dollar for validity – All are numbered and embossed with a seal; Downtown Charlottetown Inc. – Downtown Dollars
  • • Treat the dollars as cash, providing regular change when required. A customer may use more than one at a time.
Denominations: $5, $10, and $20
Redemption: Downtown Dollars are redeemable for 100% of their face value to merchants who are members of Downtown Charlottetown Inc*. Simply drop by our office Mon-Fri from 8:30am - 4:00pm* and we can write you a cheque for equal value within 5 business days (M-F). If you prefer to mail them, we can reimburse you within one week. *Holiday and weather restrictions may apply.
Administration: When submitting Downtown Dollars, please fill in the merchant information on the back of the bill. 
 


*Note: Downtown Dollars work like Cash at participating businesses in the Downtown Charlottetown BIA. They can even be used on sale items! The only exception is that Downtown Dollars can not be used to purchase Visa/Mastercard Gift Cards or gift cards for stores OUTSIDE of the Downtown Charlottetown BIA (Prince Street to Pownal Street, Euston Street to the Water).
